WOVEN MATS
FULANI
These Fulani structures originate from northern Benin and Ghana, which are part of the Sahel region. The nomads‘ tents are covered with woven plant fibres. The materials come from the local area and vary from settlement to settlement. The tents have an expressive appearance due to their covering of mats, which form cubic shapes. As cattle herders, the Fulani tie their cattle to poles anchored in the ground at night. Some Fulani communities live in villages and also build mud huts.
